Really? Genetics?
Summer 2013 59 years young |
I was the first person in my family with cancer(Thyroid Cancer)...way back in the 70's, recovered, and forget about it until it is all the talk...and then in the 80's, my sister died of Germ Cell Cancer... A very sad death...
So I sit here, 35 years past cancer with a sister that died at the young 35... None related...
My goal has always been to prevent illness...and I was and I still am very aware about stress, poor nutrition and a lack of exercise which can kill your immune system... Instead, my habit is to re-framing my stress in the very stressful time, stay nourished on fresh non-processed food as well as my "super-dooper vitamins" and staying mobile, I walk everywhere I can.. I stay aware that if I am responsible for my future good health. (FYI, My sister had the same parents with "good genes")
I have not had any health issues for many many years... Laughter is my favorite language, Body Wise is my favorite "super-dooper vitamin" and living in Carlsbad is my favorite place to stay active.
It is time for you too to stay healthy!!!
Lets grow old gracefully and in GREAT HEALTH!

We are in the year 2012...and there are still people that dont know that certain cooking items are not healthy.. such as microwaving.. There is plenty of research to prove this point...search and you will see...
Lets look at it logicly... you boil veggies, the longer you boil, the more nutritients you loose.. So, do you thing maybe if you put food in the little box and send Radiation to your food, what do you think is left... Fiber maybe, but certainly not Nutrition.
So, think about it...should you be walking away from the microwave? YES! Walk away!!!

Is Healthy Food really more expensive than Junk food?
That question perplexes me... I hear all the time......
."it cost too much to eat healthy!" Okay! I might agree if you said,
"it cost too much to eat Organic!"
But, to eat fresh food that fuels you...that is less expensive than Junk food...
Let me explain....
When you eat junk food...your body burns it very quickly..something like news paper over a log to keep you warm- the paper burns fast and then the fire is out. On the other hand...the log burns long and slow putting out heat. That is how you want to eat, eat food that takes a long time to burn..the longer it takes to burn, the longer time between hunger pains.
So as you can see...
Fast food = Fast burn. Fresh food = Good fuel.

How much does it cost?
The other day I was in a coffee house... after sharing a little bit about Body Wise one of the gentlemen asked, "How much do you spend a month?"
The next day as I was thinking about that conversation and the gentleman who could use some nutritional support, I thought..."How much do you spent a month on coffee?" My guess is: A lot more than I spend on vitamins.
When I think about where we spend our money why not budget our vitamins into the household expenses under Food? Medical? whatever makes sense for your budget. I know I prefer to be healthy and spend my money on prevention rather than a new pair of shoes. If I had a choice to feel excellent or have a wonderful new pair of shoes...I would take the feeling excellent any day.
For me, I have found the answer for excellent health...Excellent Vitamin supplements-14 years and counting... I take the very best! Ask me about them...
Think about where you are investing everyday... Something to think about.

DON'T FALL FOR GIMMICKS...

DON'T FALL FOR GIMMICKS
The Internet and television are currently exploding with commercials advertising exercise equipment. Marketing departments know that many 2011 New Year's resolutions are about exercising more. This brings out the credit cards from many people. Whether it is the core lounger, sauna belt, ab stimulator, or (my favorite) the neckline slimmer, they are all advertised as "miracle discoveries" that eliminate the need for working out to lose weight or toning up. Even though our brain tells us that this is surely a gimmick, millions of dollars are spent on these easy, time-saving solutions. To be fair, some of the advertised exercise equipment may not be completely worthless (like the shake weight or mini-stepper) IF they are used in combination with other more vigorous exercise routines. Nevertheless, it is the claims that accompany many of these implements that make utter nonsense: "FIRM ARMS IN ONLY 2 MINUTES A DAY." "VIBRATE YOUR WAY TO A WHOLE NEW LIFE." "ROCK HARD ABS WITH NO SWEAT." "HAVE A DREAM BODY IN ONLY 6 MINUTES A DAY." As I watch the the models demonstrating these items I wonder.... did they get their bodies in only 6 minutes per day using the "Body Vibrator"!
....I have however used the Total Gym...I loved it! No room for one now or I would get another and get on it. You do sweat and raise your pulse on The Total Gym...I also like the Ab-roller... it makes sense to me but again I have no room for it. So, I pull out my trampoline and workout during a full TV show... I jump, walk, jog and do passive Isometrics on my trampoline. I love it!( Especially when it is too cool outside to get outside)
The beautiful great outdoor...a good walk is always a desired way to stay healthy and burn some LBS. Stretch, Water, Deep Breathing and ENJOY the Great Outdoors...Walking, plenty of water and Body Wise is exactly how I burned off two dress sizes and got back into the body of my young adulthood.
YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY!

When it comes to what we eat....lets be smart about it...
Below I have posted some items I found on WebMD. What happened to the days when what we ate made sense? Raw and fresh fruits and veggies.. Fresh meats from the Meat Market...Fish from the Fish Market.. No bagged foods...no processed foods...no foods with dies and additives...and don't get me started on artificial sweeteners.
Lets just be Smart about it!
The Goal Is Weight Loss
High-protein diets take a page from the low-carb craze. The goal is to lose weight by eating more protein-packed foods, which often means consuming fewer carbohydrates. The portion of total calories derived from protein is what defines a high-protein diet. In a typical diet 10%-15% of daily calories come from protein. In a high-protein diet, this number can be as high as 30%-50%.
What Is a Gluten-Free Diet? Before tackling the gluten-free diet, let’s get to know our culprit. Gluten is a specific type of protein, but one you won’t find in meat or eggs. Instead gluten is found in wheat, rye, and barley. Going gluten-free means avoiding these grains. A gluten-free diet is essential for most people with gluten allergies or celiac disease, a condition which causes intestinal damage when gluten is eaten.
Sodium: A Good Thing...in Moderation
We may malign the salt shaker, but sodium plays an important role in maintaining the body's fluid balance. It’s essential for muscles and nerves to function properly. But most of us consume too much of it. FDA guidelines call for less than 2,400 mg of sodium per day -- about 1 teaspoon of table salt. Surprisingly, most of our salt intake doesn’t come from the salt shaker; it’s hidden in many of the foods we buy at the grocery store.

Cancer Free after 30 years..
The other day I was thinking... Who else is out there that has been cancer free for more than 20 years..better yet, 30 years?
I believer there are more stories out there somewhere... Sense I have been cancer free for more than 30 years I thought it would be interesting to hear stories of others that have been cancer free for as long as I have.
My Cancer was Thyroid Cancer, pretty intense... This was in 1976; I had just turned 23 years old 1 week prior to the diagnosis - Cancer was not common at all among younger people..shocking for the time..
I am looking for stories of others who have lived healthy after cancer. Who do you know?
Please help with getting the word out. I would like to hear from others.
Thank you... Staying healthy after Cancer.

Am I CRAZY?
There was a day, or should I say..a couple of years, where I felt like I was going Crazy! I was emotional, I could laugh and cry in the same breath, I put weight on and if I was not depressed due to Hormones, I was depressed because I was "FAT!"
And then realized that I was Hypo-Thyroid! Ok! Now what??? I did my homework, got educated and went after it.. I got off the Synthetic Thyroid(on it for only 2 years) and back onto the Natural Thyroid.. I learned that when you do not have a Thyroid, the Synthetic did not work...and it didn't. I also incorporated an smart and aggressive Nutrition program..I found a supplement that works! With the correct Thyroid medication, Supplements and education, I found the solution and got results.
I had Thyroid Cancer at 23 years old, was on Natural for 19 years, the doctors put me on a Synthetic which threw me into Hypothyroid, and leveled out again when I went back on the Natural form of Thyroid. It has now been 33 years after cancer...
Hypothyroidism
When the thyroid gland is under-active, improperly formed at birth, surgically removed all or in part, or becomes incapable of producing enough thyroid hormone, a person is said to be hypothyroid. One of the most common causes of hypothyroidism is the autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's disease, in which antibodies gradually target the thyroid and destroy its ability to produce thyroid hormone.
Symptoms of hypothyroidism usually go along with a slowdown in metabolism, and can include fatigue, weight gain, and depression, among others.
* The Hypothyroidism Risks/Symptoms Checklist reviews the key symptoms.
* Quiz: Could You Be Hypothyroid? is a self-test to help you identify risks and symptoms.
http://thyroid.about.com/library/links/blthyroid.htm
I am glad to say, I lost the weight, leveled out my hormones and got back to my normal active lifestyle 12 years ago..... Thankfully!
My message? When one behaves like they are Crazy, they just might be Hormonal...There are things you can do and you can go back to living a normal life. Please feel free to post any questions.
Here is to being level....

Fear NOT Weight Loss!
The Obesity Epidemic
More than one third of U.S. adults—more than 72 million people—and 16% of U.S. children are obese. Since 1980, obesity rates for adults have doubled and rates for children have tripled. Obesity rates among all groups in society—irrespective of age, sex, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, education level, or geographic region—have increased markedly.
Health Consequences of Obesity
Obesity has physical, psychological, and social consequences in adults and children. Children and adolescents are developing obesity-related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, that were once seen only in adults. Obese children are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, including high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and abnormal glucose tolerance. One study of 5- to 17-year-olds found that 70% of obese children had at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease and 39% of obese children had at least two risk factors.
Obesity is Costly
• In 2000, obesity-related health care costs totaled an estimated $117 billion.
• Between 1987 and 2001, diseases associated with obesity account for 27% of the increases in medical costs.
• Medical expenditures for obese workers, depending on severity of obesity and sex, are between 29%–117% greater than expenditures for workers with normal weight.
• From 1979–1981 to 1997–1999, annual hospital costs related to obesity among children and adolescents increased, rising from $35 million to $127 million.
These Statistics are startling... But there is good news...We can reverse these statistics.
